# Billing & Books

> Create a bill for a visit, take payments, and print a clean receipt.

Nimo handles a practice's invoicing natively. You create one bill per visit, add
what the patient owes, take payments — even in parts — and print a tidy receipt.

## Creating a bill

Open the visit and find the **Billing** card. Tap **Create bill**. If the
practice has set a default consultation fee, the first line is filled in for you.

From there, add line items as needed. Nimo does the maths — you never type a
total. The subtotal, tax, and total are always worked out from the lines, so the
numbers can't drift.

Bills pull together everything from the visit automatically: the consultation,
any pharmacy items dispensed, and any priced lab tests once collected all land on
the same bill. If your practice dispenses medicines, see
[Pharmacy counter](/help/front-desk/pharmacy-counter) for how those items get
added and paid for.

## Taking payments

Record a payment as cash, UPI, or card. A bill can be settled over several
payments — as the balance is paid down, the status moves from **unpaid** to
**partial** to **paid** on its own. A remaining balance is always shown while
there's something left to collect.

## Printing a receipt

Tap the print icon to open a clean A4 receipt with your practice letterhead, the
line items, totals, and the payments recorded. As with prescriptions and lab
requisitions, the print page hides all the app's buttons so only the receipt
comes out.

## The Books workspace

Owners and admins get the **Books** workspace — a finance view with the practice's
revenue at a glance. Day-to-day billing is front-desk work and open to the whole
team; deeper revenue figures live with owners.

## Good to know

- Bills are reached from the visit they belong to.
- Each bill gets its own running number (like `INV-0001`), unique to your
  practice.
