# Lab orders

> Order investigations during a visit and give the patient a link or QR for any lab.

Lab orders are the diagnostic sibling of prescriptions. During a visit you list
the tests you want, and Nimo gives the patient a simple link (and a printable QR)
they can take to any lab — no login needed.

## Ordering tests

On a visit, open the **Lab orders** panel and tap **Add tests**. Search for what
you need — Nimo's catalog covers both **panels** (bundles like CBC or LFT) and
**individual tests**, shown in their own labeled groups so you can tell a panel
from a single parameter at a glance. Tap as many as you need; each pick shows as
a removable chip above the search box, and **Add N test(s)** confirms them all
at once.

If a test genuinely isn't in the catalog yet, typing it still works — Nimo lets
you add it as typed, or save it into your practice's catalog so it's searchable
next time.

This panel appears on prescribing practice types, alongside prescriptions.

## Sharing with the patient

- **Copy lab link** gives you a shareable link to the requisition. The patient
  opens it and shows it at the lab.
- **Print** produces an A4 requisition on your letterhead, complete with a
  scannable QR code that opens the same page.

The lab page shows only what a lab needs — the patient's name, age, and sex, the
ordering doctor, and the test list. It deliberately leaves out date of birth,
phone number, and any clinical notes. Links expire after about 30 days.

## Collecting samples and billing

As samples are collected, the test moves along its status (ordered → collected →
resulted). Collecting a sample is front-desk work, so anyone on the team can
advance it.

If a test has a price, the moment it's collected Nimo adds it to the visit's bill
as a "Lab" line — so one bill carries the consultation, any pharmacy items, and
labs together. Nimo won't double-charge if a sample is collected more than once,
and a test with no price (or no linked visit) simply advances without a charge.

## Good to know

- Re-ordering on the same visit reuses the latest requisition. Delete it if you
  want to start a fresh one.
- The external lab never sees prices — that stays between you and the patient's
  bill.
